COMPANIES I WOULD NOT DO BUSINESS WITH

These are companies that I personally have had trouble with (product or service) and, as a result, would no longer purchase their products or services. Should you want more information about the specific companies please e-mail me at sylvan@wellsguitars.com for details.

Ritz Camera (http://www.ritzcamera.com/) A long and detailed description of my issues with this Company are located here. If you do not want to read the detailed summary, suffice to say DON'T DO ANY BUSINESS WITH THEM!

INSTRUMENT MAKER FORUMS - For the most part, no longer a good resource

I have followed the rise of numerous instrument maker forums on the internet. I belong, or have belonged to most of them. After carefully reading the interchange of information on those forums I have reluctantly come to the conclusion that the information they offer is as often wrong as it is right. The new builder has no idea of the validity of the information. Additionally, most of these forum's moderators have recently become more interested in making money off their readers than providing good, solid information. A specific case in point is the Official Luthier's Forum. In the past I have listed herein the names of its' two moderators. I have now been asked (3/7/11-in a strong manner) to remove their names so you, the reader, won't know who they are. I have reluctantly complied thinking all along that this makes my point; what started as a new and vibrant community and which attracted very experienced luthier's to share their information has denigrated into a commercial site for its' (now anonymous) owners, and, with a few exceptions, largely populated by beginning guitar makers. Almost all of the experienced luthier's have left and no longer participate. I am one who, reluctantly, has chosen that path. No longer can I recommend internet forums to my students as the information offered as solutions to guitar problems is just too suspect.
