Dear Sylvan,

Just a quick note to express my deep appreciation for the opportunity to learn from you during my two week adventure in Luray at the hands of the master!  I was uncertain that taking such a step was the best decision, but once I saw how well you had prepared your student materials and workshop I knew that this class would be professional, meet my needs and be well worth the cost.  I had a great time!

As you know, I had been hacking at building and repairing guitars for a little over two years now and I was getting nowhere. I decided to take the chance, take the time, and spend the money required to take your class.  My goals were simple: (1) great sounding instruments, (2) repeatability of construction techniques, and (3) the design aesthetics of my guitars.  Even though I was a rookie, you were patient and never tired of answering my endless questions. You were always open and receptive as well as sensitive to my feelings.   Even though the schedule was tight, your high energy and drive, sense of humor, and endless stories made the learning process fun and effective.

The quality of your work and instruction reflects on your high expectation for your students and your own professionalism.  You seemed to anticipate my needs as the class progressed and your use of logical thinking pulled us through some ÒinterestingÓ times.  I watched in wonder as you surmounted obstacles and errors on my part to help me learn from my mistakes (and only you and I know what they were ;-) ) because everything on my guitar is perfect as a result.  I greatly appreciated your effective use of time and our white board discussions complete with graphs and illustrations about guitar design and theory.

You are extremely motivated to achieve optimal results and that certainly developed a positive working relationship and, I hope, a lasting friendship.

In your pursuit of perfection, you introduced me to many fresh ideas and perspectives.  Anyone who wants to become a real luthier, or develop strong technical skills should take your Course as soon as possible.  Please feel free to have your applicants email me or call me if theyÕd like to know more about my experience in your class.

Many thanks Sylvan.  I certainly did Òbuild the guitar of my dreamsÓ!
